Mission Statement
NoIndoctrination.org is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that collects and disseminates information to promote the importance of multiple and contrasting points of view in higher education. Our mission will be accomplished in the following ways:
- To give a voice to the voiceless. Too often college courses and orientations promote blatant sociopolitical agendas with alternative viewpoints being ignored, dismissed, or ridiculed. Frequently the course content is so politicized that it has no relation to the course catalog description. Many of these courses are mandatory for freshmen or are required for graduation. Students can become intimidated, frustrated, and angry -- with backlash a possible consequence. NoIndoctrination.org provides students an opportunity to express their supported opinions through postings on our Web site and asks them to send us corroborating material such as book lists, readers, and syllabi. We offer suggestions on how students and the general public can use the media to promote open inquiry and how they can advertise our Web site. All these activities benefit those who are disturbed by blatant sociopolitical bias, but feel powerless in fighting it.
- To inform the public about the frequent lack of balance in higher education. Taxpayers, tuition-payers, and donors are often uninformed about what their dollars are underwriting. NoIndoctrination.org will objectively study course offerings, booklists, syllabi, and orientation programs from numerous colleges and universities - both public and private. Using various forms of media, we will share with the general public what we learn about sociopolitical bias in higher education. The Web site postings will provide additional information.
- To educate the public about academic freedom and open inquiry. Our Web site provides statements and links to official documents on academic freedom and professional responsibilities and ethics. Most of our nation’s colleges and universities endorse these or similar statements, yet the public is generally unaware of their content. NoIndoctrination.org firmly supports the principles of academic freedom and respects professors’ rights to express their opinions. However, as these statements make clear, courses and programs should not be used as stages for sociopolitical propaganda--as this would undermine the free and open search for truth. The NoIndoctrination.org Web site and other media will be used to encourage the general public to study the documents on academic freedom along with the postings and additional information. This should help the public form an opinion as to whether or not some of our college and university courses and programs are promoting open inquiry or indoctrination.
- To notify college administrators and support organizations about possible indoctrination. With the heavy demands of running an institution of higher learning, college officials can be oblivious to what is occurring in specific courses and programs. When sufficient evidence leads us to believe that blatant bias is occurring (in violation of a college or university's own endorsed statements concerning academic freedom), NoIndoctrination.org will present this evidence to college officials, alumni organizations, trustee groups, and other interested parties. It is our expectation that our concerns will be researched and, if found valid, followed with corrective action - thereby benefiting the academic community.
